  • I know how to add new tools to a course site

If you answered yes to the previous statements, but answer NO to any of the statements below, you should attend: Lessons Tool (Advanced)

  • I know how to create a guided learning experience using Lessons
  • I am comfortable organizing resources on OWL

I want to present content to my students synchronously (live) or asynchronously (to my students)

If you answer NO to any of the statements below, you should attend:Zoom, Blackboard and Voicethread

  • I can set up a zoom meeting or blackboard collaborate meeting
  • I can record a VoiceThread or a zoom or blackboard collaborate meeting
  • I am comfortable sharing slides using zoom or blackboard collaborate
  • I am comfortable sharing a recorded zoom or blackboard collaborate meeting

I want to facilitate group work online

  • I know how to use collaborative docs, forums, student pages, or other tools to facilitate group work.

I want to use tools available in the Office 365 Suite (Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Teams)

  • I am comfortable using the Office 365 Suite for teaching purposes

How to Register

  1. Login to Western Connect with your Western username and password.
  2. Go to the Centre for Teaching and Learning section and select Event Calendar.
  3. Search for and select the program or event. Details and a description of the program will appear.
  4. Select the Register for this Event button. If the event has reached capacity, you may have the option to register on the waitlist.
  5. Once you have successfully registered for an event, you will receive an automated confirmation email to your Western email account.

OWL Basics

This session will introduce participants to:

  • creating your course site in OWL
  • uploading content
  • leveraging tools such as “Resources”, “Assignments” and “Announcements” in OWL to rapidly move courses online.

Office 365 Suite

This session will review the online capabilities of MS Word, MS OneDrive, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Participants will learn how to:

  • Share and collaboratively edit documents and presentations with students
  • Record lectures using PowerPoint

Zoom, Blackboard Collaborate, and VoiceThread

In this session, we will introduce participants to:

  • Recording and posting lectures to OWL
  • Facilitating discussions using VoiceThread
  • Annotating PowerPoints or other documents.

This session will discuss the advanced capabilities of the OWL Lessons tool. Participants will learn how to:

  • Embed videos or other media from external sources into their OWL site
  • Use subpages to effectively organize content and resources in OWL
