Workshops for Faculty for the Start of Summer 2021 Academic Term
The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and Western Technology Services (WTS) are kicking off the Summer 2021 academic term with synchronous workshops, Instructional Skills Workshop Online, and Thursday Weekly Q&As to support departments and faculty as they prepare for a new semester of online teaching.
To register for one of the below online workshops, login to your staff/faculty Western Connect account and then click the workshop link of interest.
Upcoming eLearning Workshops:
We’ve developed two new synchronous workshops to support instructors teaching online:
Teaching with Microsoft Teams: Thursday April 29, 2021 from 11:00am to 12:00pm EDT
Description: This workshop will assist faculty to identify when and how Microsoft Teams can be used to teach. It will be particularly useful for instructors who are facilitating teamwork or groupwork projects where students are required to collaborate throughout the semester, chat virtually, and share/develop resources.
Repurposing Your Remote Teaching Content for Any Course: Tuesday May 4, 2021 from 10:00am to 11:00am EDT OR Wednesday May 26, 2021 from 11:00am-12:30pm EDT OR Wednesday June 2 from 1:00pm-2:30pm EDT
Description: This workshop will assist participants to evaluate their online materials and identify how to leverage their hard work for future iterations of the course – regardless of the modality. Now is the time for faculty to take stock of their remote teaching content to determine what will be repurposed.
Instructional Skills Workshop Online:
Occurs entirely online in OWL over a six-week period (May 12 - June 22, 2021).
The Instructional Skills Workshop Online (ISW-O) has been developed to address the needs of instructors who teach online. It offers participants the opportunity to explore, in very practical and hands-on ways, the conditions that give rise to powerful eLearning experiences among students. This workshop provides new instructors with an introduction to designing and facilitating effective eLearning activities, while experienced instructors may use it as an opportunity to refine and expand their teaching practices, to explore new ideas, or to revisit the fundamentals. Participants interact both asynchronously (e.g., online discussion tools) and synchronously (e.g., Blackboard Collaborate).
To register for this workshop, login to your staff/faculty Western Connect account then click this link. Registration closes May 10, 2021 at 4:00pm EDT.
Open Instructional Skills Workshop Online:
Unable to register for our limited enrolment workshop? Consider Open ISW-O! It is a compressed, self-guided version of our Instructional Skills Workshop Online. Join the site and complete the lessons at your own pace. Lessons include Building Community, Building Lessons, and Putting Theory into Practice.
- Log into OWL using the course link: Open ISW-O-Joinable
- After login, click "Yes, please add me" to join the site
Thursday Weekly Q&A with eLearning Specialists from CTL and WTS:
These are a great opportunity for instructors to get answers to their questions about online learning and teaching in the online format. Each of these informal drop-in sessions are co-facilitated by eLearning team members from CTL and WTS. Upcoming dates include:
- Thursday, April 29, 2021 from 11 am-12 pm
- Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 11 am-12 pm
- For more dates in May and June visit here.
If you have any questions or problems registering for an event, please contact ctl@uwo.ca.
