Reccomended Programs and Resoures by Role
New Teaching Assistants and Graduate Students
Graduate students who are new to teaching are encouraged to attend:
- TA Day: Graduate Student Conference on Teaching - Typically offered in early September
- TA eLearning Series - 9 asynchronous TA training modules
- Teaching Assistant Training Program (TATP) - 20-hour program
- Future Prof Series (FPS) - 1.5 hour interactive workshops throughout the academic year
- Being a Teaching Assistant - Collection of tips and resources for TAs
- Western Certificate in University Teaching and Learning - Participants receive a certificate and a letter of accomplishment after they complete the five certificate components
Teaching Assistants & Graduate Students
Graduate students with prior teaching experience may be interested in the following:
- Teaching Assistant Training Program (TATP) - 20-hour program
- TA eLearning Series - 9 asynchronous TA training modules
- Future Prof Series (FPS) - 1.5 hour interactive workshops throughout the academic year
- Teaching Mentor Program (TMP) - Cohort-based hands-on learning experience
- SGPS 9500: The Theory and Practice of University Teaching - Winter Term graduate credit course
- Advanced Teaching Program (ATP) - 20-hour program
- Perspectives on Teaching Conference - Full-day conference designed to showcase teaching innovations at Western
- Become a TATP Instructor: Passionate about student-centered teaching? Applications for this part-time position typically to open early March of each year on Working at Western. We typically hold an information session in late February.
- Western Certificate in University Teaching and Learning - Participants receive a certificate and a letter of accomplishment after they complete the five certificate components
International & New Resident Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars
Graduate students and postdoctoral scholars who are new to Canada are encouraged to attend the following programs:
- Communication in the Canadian Classroom (CCC)- 15-hour program
- Exploring and Interviewing for Careers in Teaching (EICT)- 15-hour program
- Teaching in the Canadian Classroom (TCC)- 20-hour program
- Teaching Mentor Program (TMP) - Cohort-based hands-on learning experience
- Western Certificate in University Teaching and Learning - Participants receive a certificate and a letter of accomplishment after they complete the five certificate components
Postdoctoral Scholars
- Advanced Teaching Program (ATP) - 20-hour program (Note: Recommended for postdocs with prior teaching experience)
- Future Prof Series (FPS) - 1.5 hour interactive workshops throughout the academic year
- Perspectives on Teaching Conference - Full-day conference designed to showcase teaching innovations at Western
- Teaching Mentor Program (TMP) - Cohort-based hands-on learning experience

- Go to the Centre for Teaching and Learning section and select Event Calendar.

Note: Our limited enrollment certificate programs require a deposit to complete registration. Please see each program page for more information and when a program is typically offered during the academic year.
To register for an event in Western Connect, you must be registered in the term indicated on the "Offer of Admission") graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.
