Exploring and Interviewing for Careers in Teaching (EICT)

DESCRIPTION

Exploring and Interviewing for Careers in Teaching (EICT) is a collaborative program with Career Education. This program is a 15-hour certificate program composed of:

  • 12 in-person class hours (including 2 workshops and 2 mock interviews)
  • 3 hours of asynchronous online work

EICT prepares international and new resident graduate students to confidently interview for positions within the education sector. This program will cover how participants can navigate cultural differences during the recruitment process.

EICT incorporates two hands-on workshops where participants will be able to create key documents to include in their applications (resume and mini teaching portfolio). EICT ends the program with two rounds of mock interviews where participants will be able to practice answers to frequently asked interview questions. Ann Ayinde, Career Coach at Career Education will lend her expertise in this program.

Testimonials

“Some skills that I learned in this workshop: 1) listening to the hidden question being, 2) breaking down the question to answer more deeply, and 3) gaining competence handling challenging questions and how to redirect the answer to show my strengths.”

“The practice interviews are very effective, in the sense, that it provides a rare opportunity for us to study the verbal and non-verbal aspects of the interviewee and the interviewer. The workshop effectively targets specific interview language which I find extremely useful. I've learned ways to articulate my examples to attract the interviewer's attention while not sounding too aggressive or hostile.”
